Biography

Deb Schlichter joined the Region of Waterloo as Director of Housing in June 2009 and is currently responsible for a portfolio of approx. 9,000 Community Housing units that are either owned or overseen by the Region, and responsible for implementing the Region of Waterloo’s Affordable Housing Strategy which, to date, has helped create more than 2,000 new units of affordable housing in the community. As of November 2014, she became the Housing Services Director, which also includes homelessness responsibilities. Previous to the Region, Deb spent 26 years working at House of Friendship, a local multi-service charitable organization serving those living in poverty through 18 programs, including emergency shelter and affordable housing programs, working in various roles including the last 11 years as Executive Director. Deb also served three terms on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Non-Profit Housing Association (ONPHA) where she held several roles including president and past president, and has been involved in a number of housing and homelessness networks. Deb’s passion is housing, with the belief that everyone needs a place to call home.
