Janet Hope was appointed Assistant Deputy Ministry, Housing Division at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing in June 2010. In this role, Janet leads policy and program initiatives relating to housing and homelessness in Ontario. Under Janet’s leadership, the Division has developed the Long-Term Affordable Housing Strategy, implemented the Investment in Affordable Housing Program to improve access to housing outcomes for Ontarians, and established the Community Homelessness Prevention Initiative (CHPI) to provide a more flexible, outcomes-oriented approach for local communities to address and prevent homelessness.
Prior to her current appointment, she served in a variety of senior management roles in the Ontario Public Service, including Director, Planning and Strategic Policy with the Ministry of Community and Social Services; Director, Municipal Finance Policy at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing; and Director, Colleges Branch, Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.
Janet began her Ontario Public Service career in 1986 with the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Relations working in the area of consumer protection policy, and spent several years working with the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, where she held a series of progressively responsible positions in the field of postsecondary education policy.
Janet holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Waterloo, and a Master of Arts degree in political science, public policy and administration from McMaster University.
